Good Design Principles Worth Considering
Image is important. When you want an impressive Website, you need to have good Graphic Images to attract attention, to portray “a picture tells a thousands words” as well as to create an aesthetic balance with your page text.
What type of IMAGE do you want to portray? This depends on your Product or Service. For some, you will have your own brand Logo images. Or you may have Pictures of your own Products. You can also use images that either relate to the particular market, niche or subject you are involved in.
Layout. In the typical layout of a web page there are usually specific places where your graphic pictures or images will be placed.
At the Top is ‘the Header graphic’. The Header will give first impressions and should represent your niche market and may contain your Logo. There may be a background in the header that also helps create the look and feel of your Website.
Page backgrounds are purely optional but the colour scheme is important to the overall impression your Site will give. Each Page of your Site should also contain some relevant Graphics or Pictures. Choose ones that relate to the Article or page topic. In other cases they will show Product Photos. Make sure the image is of a size that helps balance with the text on your page and also with pictures – that they load quickly for your visitors.
The other areas that may require Graphics are the Footer (or bottom of page) area and also it is usually good to have a Photo of you or your Staff on your About or Contact page.
Fancy Slideshows or Flash Images. You also get the choice of having a Slideshow of Images placed anywhere on your Site. These will help to spice up your Site and as they are dynamic pictures, they will attract attention from your Site Visitors (thus helping your Site be “more sticky” – they are likely to stick around longer).
